Guide to Northeast Santa Cruz County

About the Guide to Northeastern Santa Cruz County

This Guide aims to be a consumer's eye view of of the northeastern region of Santa Cruz County, Arizona, including the towns of Canelo, Elgin, Patagonia and Sonoita, sometimes known as The Mountain Empire. We hope to list every business and organization in the region that wishes a listing. Each listing will contain the name of the business/organization, the address, phone number and a category in which it has been placed. There can also be one or more tags that act in a similar manner to keywords or adjectives to be applied to the category. As an example of the use of tags, a bed & breakfast inn in the lodging category could be tagged "bed and breakfast", as well as have other tags. One note: If a tag having multiple words is used, it must be enclosed in "double quotes."

The initial entry page into the website presents a page headed by an overall map of the region followed by a listing of the first 10 businesses listed alphabetically. At the bottom of the list are links allowing you to move to the next or previous page. Other sorting options available are Most Highly Rated, By Category, Most Tagged, or Most Recently Added.

There are also controls on the map, also present on each map for an individual business. As originally shown, the major roads in the area are seen. Patagonia is labeled and the crossroads at Sonoita are easily found. Across the top of the map are "buttons" labeled Map, Satellite, and Hybrid. The Satellite button loads satellite images of the region. They are not available at the highest resolution over the entire region. The Hybrid button loads the satellite images overlaid by a road map. You can return to the default display of a road map alone by using the Map button. In the upper left corner are + and - buttons which allow you to zoom in or out on the area. Placing the cursor on the map and depressing the mouse button allows you to drag the map to travel around the area. These maps are supplied by Google Maps.

Just below the title bar are a few more buttons. All Businesses, leads back to the entry page. Categories leads to a list of the approximately 30 categories in use and the number of entries found in each category. Clicking on any of these category names produces a list of the businesses and organizations found in that category. Tags presents a listing of the top 100 tags that have been attached to the businesses. The default mode of this view is the map view where the size of the font used for each tag is an indication of the number of listings given that tag. An index list, similar to the category listing, is also available. Clicking on a tag name will produce a page containing the listings that have been thus tagged. To add reviews and ratings for the businesses, you must become a registered user of the site. You will find the form for registration in the upper part of the sidebar on the right. The My Reviews button is available for those who have registered to see the reviews they have written. If you have written a review, you may edit that review. You may read but not edit the reviews written by others.
